3 Easy, Eco-friendly Holiday Decor Ideas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I love the holidays. This year in particular feels extra special. My four year old is SO into Christmas this year and her excitement is contagious.

We’ve been having so much fun decorating and forming new traditions.

Since I am not the craftiest person and four year olds have super short attention spans, I really need my holiday crafts to be as simple as possible.

And because being conscious of how much trash I produce as a human is so important to me I also need my crafts to be Eco-friendly.

Here are 3 easy and Eco-friendly holiday decor ideas.

Citrus Garland

Citrus Garland

This one is SO easy and it makes your house smell amazing. I used a combination of oranges and lemons. The hardest part about this is slicing the oranges evenly. Use a sharp, serrated knife or a mandolin if you have one.

I followed these instructions for mine. I love to drape this garland on my tree, the twinkle lights give the citrus slices a cozy glow.

These can be stored and used the following year if the citrus was properly dehydrated. Compost when you are done with them.

Cinnamon Dough Ornaments

Another one that will make your house smell like Christmas. This three ingredient recipe is really fun to make.

We use red and white cotton baker’s string to hang the ornaments making them fully compostable.

The hardest part about making these is the wait time in between steps. Plan accordingly.

Evergreen Wreath

Evergreen Wreath

This is the cheapest, most sustainable wreath ever. I used evergreen trimmings from a variety of evergreens in my own yard. I followed this tutorial for mine.

Keep it simple by using only evergreen and red ribbon to hang it, or jazz it up by adding foraged pine cones, holly, dried twigs, and more ribbon.

I only had to buy a wreath form (you can find these for cheaper at your local craft store), green florist wire, and red ribbon.

At the end of the season, I’ll be removing the greenery and composting them. The wreath form, wire, and ribbon can be saved and used again next year.

The hardest part about this project was getting the spacing down with the evergreen bunches.

Well, there you have it, three fun, easy, cheap, and sustainable holiday crafts. Happy crafting!
